In this interview, the duo shares their journey, the inspiration behind their food and what it means to be part of the vibrant Algarve community.
Q: Tell us a little about yourself?
I'm Adélia, born in Tavira, and Adérito is from Viseu. Together, we have more than 20 years of experience in the restaurant industry. Over the years, we have had the opportunity to learn and grow in this industry, which has allowed us to build a strong foundation of knowledge and passion for what we do. In 2018, we decided to take an important step and start our own project, uniting our experiences and our love for gastronomy. This is how this dream was born, which, over time, has grown and developed with our dedication and affection.
Q: What inspired you to start and how did you get involved?
We have always had the desire to open a space in Tavira, a city that we love and that has so much to offer. The inspiration came naturally from our love for the region and the local cuisine, which has always been a great passion for both of us. When the opportunity arose, we did not hesitate to fully engage in the project. The process of turning the idea into reality was a challenge, but the desire to create something unique and special in Tavira was what motivated us to move forward. We are very happy that we have taken this step and have been able to bring our vision to life.
Q: What do you think makes Tavira, and the region, such a unique place?
Tavira is, without a doubt, a unique place. The city has everything you can ask for to live with quality of life: a perfect blend of tranquility, nature and culture. Its historic streets, stunning beaches, and local cuisine makes Tavira a very special destination. In addition, the region has a calmer and more welcoming pace, which provides a sense of well-being that is difficult to find elsewhere. The environment is perfect for those looking for a balance between modern life and contact with nature, and we are very happy to live and work here.
Q: Do you have a favorite place in this area that you think more people should know about?
Without a doubt, Tavira Island is one of our favorite places in the region. It is a must-see destination for anyone visiting the city. The island offers golden sand beaches and crystal clear waters, as well as a tranquil environment, perfect for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle. The natural beauty and stunning scenery makes this place a true paradise. It is ideal for a lazy day, walks or even for an outdoor picnic. Tavira Island is a hidden gem that more people should explore.
Q: What's next for you in this project?
Our goal is to continue to take care of our customers with the same dedication and attention to detail that we have had since day one. For us, maintaining the same level of commitment and passion is critical to the continued success of our project. We believe that caring for customers is the foundation of everything, and we want to ensure that everyone who visits us feels welcomed and special. The future is to maintain this proximity and, at the same time, continue to evolve to always offer the best possible experience.
Q: If you could describe yourself in three words, what would they be?
If I had to describe myself in three words, I would choose 'taste', 'love' and 'affection'. 'Taste' represents the passion we put into everything we do, especially in our cuisine and the dishes we serve to our customers. 'Love' because everything we do is with great dedication and respect, whether for our work or for our community. And finally, 'caring', which reflects the way we treat every detail, whether it's customer service or creating a welcoming environment for everyone. These words are the essence of our project and our way of working.
Q: What is your favorite order at a local restaurant or café?
I love to order local products, such as fresh octopus, which is a real delight here in the region, prepared in different ways. I'm also a fan of typical sweets and almonds, which are a wonderful specialty of the Algarve. The mix of authentic and fresh flavors that the region offers is something I always appreciate. These local flavors, which bring a little piece of our culture, are what always attract me when I go to a restaurant or café in our area.
Q: If you had a free day to explore or enjoy the Eastern Algarve, how would you spend it?
If you had a free day to explore the Eastern Algarve, you'd start with a leisurely stroll along the seafront. The coastline here is simply stunning, with calm beaches and breathtaking scenery. I would spend the day relaxing to the sound of the waves, enjoying the sun and the fresh sea air. For me, there is nothing better than this direct contact with nature, feeling the energy of the place. The region has so much to offer, from the little secret corners to the most well-known beaches, and I believe that every moment by the sea is a unique opportunity to recharge your batteries.
Q: What is a hidden talent or a fun fact about you that most people don't know?
Well, that's a secret, but I think it's best to come visit us to find out! The truth is that sometimes people are surprised by some of our skills outside of the kitchen and daily work. We have many hidden talents, but we prefer to leave the mystery in the air, as we believe that the best way to meet them is in person. Every visit to our home is a new discovery, and who knows what else we might surprise our guests with!
